During my last Big Money, Big Mindset webinar, I shared a version of the wheel of life with DWG students. It’s a simple visual that maps out the core areas we all juggle: health, relationships, career, finances, personal growth, and more. The aim? To find some kind of balance across all of them.
I know, easier said than done, right? We certainly sign up for a lot in this game of life!

Each of these areas matters, but today I want to focus on one that has a surprising ripple effect on the rest: your finances. Because when money feels stable, secure and abundant, everything else becomes easier.
Weâve all heard the saying, money doesnât buy happiness. While thatâs true to an extent (in that your general outlook and attitude will translate to other areas of your life), I donât fully agree that money canât buy happiness.
Why?
Because money buys time. And time gives you freedom. And that, in my view, is what so many people are really chasing.
The truth is, we’re not encouraged to see wealth as something attainable, and most people didnât grow up having open conversations about money. We may not have been taught how to build wealth, manage money, make investments, or see the opportunities that are out there. In fact, many of us internalised some version of:
Itâs hard to get ahead â just accept it
You work till retirement, thatâs just how it goes
Just survive, donât expect more
And these are just some of the narratives that are imposed on us! But hereâs the good news: it doesnât have to stay that way.
In my experience, when you start working on your financial mindset, learning about money, and seeing the results of your efforts, all the other areas on this wheel of life begin to thrive.
Letâs break this down:
The bottom line
Money isnât something to push away (either consciously or subconsciously). Itâs a tool that enables a richer, more fulfilling life. And the more you create, the more you can share. This is why I encourage people to prioritise wealth creation, rather than turning away from it. In my opinion, mastery over our finances is one of the greatest gifts we can ever give ourselves and our loved ones.
